Our DNA (Core Values)
What makes VSBC different? Our DNA! We believe that all churches are special and are made up of individuals who make up the body. Scripture tells us:
Ephesians 4:2-6; 11-13
2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit- just as you were called to one hope when you were called- 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all...11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
So, what holds us together? There are some key beliefs that we share with one another:
-
Scripture is the foundation upon which we function. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
-
We exist to glorify God. (Romans 15:5-6; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Romans 12:1)
-
Ministry to people is our passion. (Ephesians 4:11-13; Acts 2:42-47; Romans 12:10-11; Romans 15:5-6)
-
We strive for excellence in all we do. (Mark 12:30; 2 Timothy 4:6-8)
So, this is the heart of what we believe. Since we are a people who believe that Christ is the head of our body we need to know where we are going. That is our mission:
VSBC is dedicated to obey the Lord’s directive to develop followers of Jesus Christ who demonstrate God’s love and truth in our community and world.
Ok, now you know what holds us together and our mission! What will we see when we approach our destination? This is our vision of what God will do through our body:
VSBC: A cross generational family ministering to the needs of all.
Simple, isn't it? Well, not quite, the simple words "A cross generational family" mean something special to us! First we are indebted to Christ for who we are and what we will become. We believe that He redeemed mankind, and those who accept His love will receive His forgiveness. Jesus choose to endure the cross as for our sins, therefore, we live in the shadow of the cross. So when we say a cross generational family we mean that our generations, from the youngest to the oldest, are going to live in the shadow of the Cross. Also, we recognize that generations have struggled with style, society, and tastes. It has always been that way! Rather than challenge the differences in generations we choose to honor one another in the shadow of the cross. Therefore, from children to senior adults we desire to honor one another in all that we do. We choose not to make style, dress or choice of musical style interfere with our love for one another. We recognize that is not an easy task! However, we feel that it is necessary to strive to that vision to be what God desires for us.
The latter part of who we see our body becoming is a ministering church. Again, not to a specific generational group or ages but to all people. We desire also not to just minister to those who are part of our body but to those who are in our community, and ultimately to the uttermost parts of the world. We choose to do these things, not because we want to draw attention to us, but in order to point people to our Lord.
This may be an awful lot to digest! We invite you to call the church office and be a part of our DNA 101 class. This class will be held frequently and will give you an opportunity to explore who we are and to decide if you feel that God is inviting you to become a part of our family. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have about who we are! Hopefully you have found us to be friendly and comfortable to be around, we love people, people of all ages!
